MOLECULAR PROFILE

What Is N-Acetyl Selank (Amidated)?

N-Acetyl Selank is a synthetic derivative of the heptapeptide Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) in which the N-terminus has been acetylated and the C-terminal proline converted to a primary amide. Both modifications block the principal degradation pathways (aminopeptidases at the N-terminus, carboxypeptidases at the C-terminus) that limit native Selank to a ~2-3 minute plasma half-life. Pharmacodynamic activity at GABAergic, serotonergic, and BDNF-expression pathways is preserved; the modifications are pharmacokinetic rather than pharmacological.
