What Is SS-31?
SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a Szeto-Schiller tetrapeptide that selectively localizes to the inner mitochondrial membrane via electrostatic and hydrophobic interaction with cardiolipin. Research has examined its effects on mitochondrial respiration, ROS production, cristae morphology, and bioenergetic recovery in models of ischemia-reperfusion, heart failure, and mitochondrial disease.
